SPECIAL TO THE RECORD

HAWTHORNE — The senior class at Hawthorne Christian has always had its collective sights set on the school record for victories in a season.

The win total grew closer to that record year after year during their careers, and since the Defenders fell short of their goals this fall to win titles in the NJIC and Passaic County tournament, hitting their magic number became that much more important to the seniors.

With a relentless offensive attack culminating with a Will Woodfin goal in the 24th minute, fourth-seeded Hawthorne Christian defeated fifth-seeded Saddle River Day, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the North Non-Public B tournament and established a school record with victory No. 17.
