Fourth-seeded Hawthorne Christian beat second-seeded Morristown-Beard, 4-3, to clinch the North Non-Public B title in Wayne.

Rene White’s goal with just more than three-minutes remaining broke a 3-all tie and secured the Defenders’ victory.

Morristown-Beard took an early 1-0 lead, but Hawthorne Christian’s Henry Prinz responded with a goal. White gave the Defenders a 2-1 lead on a pass from Stephen Gabriele, and Kyle Nawyn scored to give Hawthorne Christian a two-goal cushion going into halftime.

Morristown-Beard scored twice in the second half to tie the game, but White put the Defenders back on top with his second goal of the game.

Hawthorne Christian’s defense clamped down on Morristown-Beard to clinch the title.

John Williams finished with three saves for the Defenders.

 

NORTH 2, GROUP 1 HARRISON 2, SECAUCUS 0 (at Harrison): Jorge Castro and Ali Lakhrif each scored in the second half to propel top-seeded Harrison to the sectional title over seventh-seeded Secaucus. Leandro Gonzales had an assist. Harrison has scored 23 goals through its four state tournament games.

Secaucus goalkeeper Eric Quitiquit finished with 17 saves. Harrison will play Waldwick in the Group 1 semifinals.

NORTH 2, GROUP 2 HACKETTSTOWN 2, GARFIELD 1 (at Hackettstown): Dave Herrera scored for Garfield, but goals from Aaron Maciak and Josh Weiss lifted third-seeded Hackettstown to a win over the fourth seed to secure a sectional title.

The Boilermakers beat top-seeded Madison, 2-1, in the semifinals.

Lucas Andrusin had an assist for Hackettstown.
