LYNDHURST — The Rutherford boys, fueled by Kevin Fecanin’s sweep of the distance freestyle events and Andrew Yi’s triumph in the 100 butterfly, slammed an exclamation point on their 7-0 dual meet season by running away with the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference meet title and the overall championship Saturday at the Lyndhurst Community Pool.
Fecanin, a senior, captured his first league titles, winning the 200 free (2:02.38) and 500 free (5:30.75).
Yi, a junior, won the 100 fly (58.22), and both boys supported the first-place 200 medley relay (1:51.45) and 400 free relay (3:39.48).
“It felt good to finally win an event here because I got touched out in the breast stroke last season,” said Fecanin, whose 200 free time was a personal best by 15 seconds.
Alex Barszcz, a senior swimming for New Milford/Dumont, electrified the meet by winning the 50 free in 22.78 and the 100 free in a meet-record 49.54. Then he split 22.34 to come from behind and win the 200 free relay (1:39.34).
Team Scores: Rutherford – 115, Lyndhurst -48, Leonia/Pal park – 47, New Milford – 43, Harrison – 36, Secaucus and Garfield – 12
