HARRISON – Anything less than a repeat as a sectional boys volleyball champion is unacceptable for Harrison.
And the Blue Tide would like to take it a step higher this season by winning a state semifinal and reaching their first NJSIAA final.
“We’re trying to get ourselves in position where we’re much more prepared to do that,” co-coach Nick Landy said Tuesday in between a pair of sweeps over Lyndhurst in the West Jersey Volleyball League.
“A reasonable expectation is for us to go as far as last year, and go farther than last year – always moving forward,” said standout senior middle Piotr Namiotko.
Harrison, ranked No. 2 behind Fair Lawn in The Record preseason Top 5, has the size, strength and experience to knock off much larger schools and reach the state final on June 9 at South Brunswick. The Group 2 Blue Tide return five starters.
Firepower is Harrison’s biggest weapon. Namiotko, a returning first-team All-North Jersey selection, is the hammer that drives the Blue Tide. In Tuesday’s opener, the 6-foot-5 right-hander had 16 of his team’s 28 kills in a 25-5, 25-9 victory.
