Pompton Lakes certainly has inserted itself into the conversation when measuring the top girls fencing teams in North Jersey.
The Cardinals are off to a 7-1 start in dual meets. In addition, they performed well last weekend at the Passaic County Tournament.
Sparked by senior co-captains Sam Lorenc and Kelly Brennan, and a quality group of underclassmen, Pompton Lakes is enjoying a major revival on the strip. Coach Paul Smith’s team has moved to No. 3 in The Record’s Top Six rankings after going 5-9 last season.
“Winning definitely makes everything a lot more funner – that’s one of our main mottoes for this season,” said Smith, in his fifth year at the Cardinals’ helm. “The mood of the team is definitely upbeat. We have a good amount of confidence that could pave the way to some good things down the road.”
