Glen Rock HS

HALEDON – It’s hard to call a Week 2 high school football game a must-win, but for Glen Rock, it certainly felt like one. Coming off a loss to Rutherford in the opener and knowing that the road to playoffs is one with lots of traffic, the Panthers could ill afford an 0-2 start.

It wasn’t until Jack Cinquegrana’s end zone interception with 44 seconds to go that the Panthers could finally exhale. The 14-6 win felt more like a relief than anything else.

“Last week, we proved what kind of team we were in defeat and this week we proved what kind of team we are in victory,” Panthers coach Jim Kurz said. “Sometimes you have to win an ugly one like this to prove who you are.”Manchester (0-2) had the first scoring chance in the opening period, but Tim Ray made a fourth-and-2 tackle for a 1-yard loss. It was the first of many big plays in the game for Ray, who had seven catches for 146 yards, and had six tackles on defense.
