CRESSKILL — St. Mary dominated Cresskill and Keon Banks totaled more than 150 all-purpose yards on the way to a 34-15 road victory at Arch Shaw Field on Saturday, completing the Gaels’ second undefeated regular season.
“We’re hot right now, and it’s great to know that we’ve accomplished this and we’ve done it for our school,” Banks said.
Each team possessed the ball four times and scored a touchdown in the first quarter. Cresskill received an early scare, when quarterback Sean Kelly was injured after a 5-yard run. Jack Maltby came on in relief and tossed an 12-yard touchdown pass on a comeback route to Harrison Farber.
St. Mary responded by unleashing Banks on the Cougars’ defense. Banks ran for more than 50 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown, on an impressive 10-play, 80-yard response to Cresskill’s opening score.
“I was just following my blocks out there,” Banks said. “We had a great game plan, some good packages including some Wildcat and we believed in it.”
