POMPTON LAKES — Scott Mahoney wasn’t worried when quarterback Robbie Meyers graduated in June.

Meyers was an efficient, experienced leader who minimized mistakes and guided Pompton Lakes to back-to-back North 1, Group 1 championships. But Mahoney, the Cardinals’ football coach, had complete confidence in Adam Rayford entering this season, even though his new quarterback hadn’t started a varsity game.
