The last nine seasons have been a bit of a struggle for the Queen of Peace football program, but the Golden Griffins are hoping former Clifton coach Jim Kelly can revitalize their fortunes.

Kelly met with the Queen of Peace players for the first time Wednesday, one day after being hired as the program’s fifth head coach in 10 years. The first impression, on Kelly’s part, was a good one.

“It was the first time we met formally,” said Kelly, who teaches television production at Nutley. “From what I saw of the kids, they appear to be very athletic.”

And young.

The Golden Griffins, loaded with freshmen and sophomores, went 1-8 last season, and there are only three juniors on the current roster.
