WALLINGTON — A minor physical mistake from one Wallington player during tackling drills prompted coach Barry Blauvelt to shout a few words of wisdom from the sideline on Thursday.

“You’re not going to be able to tackle [St. Mary running back] Keon Banks like that,” said Blauvelt, whose team suffered a 55-8 loss to Banks and the Gaels in Week 8 of last year’s 4-6 campaign.

After surrendering more than 40 points per game last season — including a 76-56 loss to Saddle Brook in Wallington’s season finale — the obvious point of emphasis this summer has been on the defensive side of the ball.

To fix the problem, according to Blauvelt, it all starts by becoming more consistent tacklers
