LODI – Glen Rock isn’t going anywhere. The Panthers may be young, without much size and impacted by a couple of key injuries, but they will not surrender their NJIC girls basketball Colonial Division crown easily.

Exhibiting a tenacious, man-to-man defense and a controlled, patient offense, Glen Rock handed Lodi (5-1) its first loss, 47-18, on Thursday.

Kelly Lohr, a sophomore forward/guard, led the way for Glen Rock with 13 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Freshman Tara Szawaluk, starting at point guard for Elizabeth Alba (sprained right ankle), contributed a game-high 14 points along with three assists and five steals.

“We are learning that if we stay focused and determined for 32 minutes we can achieve our goals,” Szawaluk said. “We know we have to keep working hard and battle for every loose ball and rebound for us to have a chance to be successful the rest of the year.”

Glen Rock (5-3), ranked 24th in The Record girls basketball Top 25, suffered a big loss in the preseason when two-year starter McGara DeWan, a 5-9 senior forward, was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL suffered during lacrosse last spring.
