SADDLE RIVER – Sophomore center Dani Deoul had a game-high 17 points as Saddle River Day defeated Newtown (Conn.), 58-42, Saturday afternoon in the third annual “3s for Healing Through Sports” benefit basketball game.
The two schools have forged a strong relationship playing each year to raise money and mark the memory of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school in 2012. This year, there were four games played by youth teams in North Jersey against corresponding teams from Newtown before the varsity game.
“One of the best things we ever did was have the middle school component and bring the other communities here,” Saddle River Day coach Danny Brown said. “We talked about it and we think that is what we will do next year up there. It’s just so much energy and so much love.”
