THE RECORD
— Mark J. Czerwinski and Chris Iseman
State girls basketball
North 1, Group 1 final
No. 4 Midland Park (20-5) at No. 3 New Milford (24-4), 6 p.m.
Story line: New Milford’s been on a roll, and boasts one of North Jersey’s top three-point shooters in Natalie Miller. The junior G is averaging 13.5 points per game, and has 14 threes in three state tournament games. Midland Park’s always a tough team to stop, though. The Panthers are solid at both ends of the floor, and senior forward Thalia Ghalam is one of North Jersey’s best all-around players. She’s averaging 13.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.8 three steals per game.
North 2, Group 1 final
No. 3 Secaucus (22-7) at No. 1 University (20-6), 5:30 p.m.
Story line: A tough draw for the Patriots. The Phoenix have three top-shelf scoring threats, including senior G Jihayah Chavis (21.7 ppg in three state games), senior G Iyannah Moore (14.7 ppg) and senior F Teylahna Green (14.3 ppg). Senior G Kristina Ulrich, who is averaging 16.3 ppg in the tournament, has been the Patriots’ go-to girl all season, but watch sophomore G Lindsey Mack, who has averaged 18.3 points in three tournament wins.
