Waldwick

The Record – Girls soccer

No. 22 Waldwick

Last year’s record: 13-5-2

Final ranking: No. 21

Marquee game: at Midland Park, Sept. 17

Best assets: With 11 seniors returning, Waldwick will be experienced. Coach Tommy Schultz said he can tell early in camp that his seniors are determined to build off a strong season in 2013, when Waldwick lost to New Milford in the North 1, Group 1 semifinals. “I think it’s great to have that, especially this year because I think the seniors are really, really hungry,” Schultz said. “We had a great season last year and they want to do better this year.” Schultz said his team is “sound defensively,” but said he would like to see the Warriors improve offensively.

Biggest concern: Waldwick has to replace Katie Ottavio and Anna Puglise, two players who shared responsibility for the Warriors being such a good defensive team. Schultz said he has a few players who should be able to step in and fill those roles. Much of preseason, he said, will be spent trying to get everyone accustomed to playing with each other and used to their roles.
