NORTH HALEDON – Erin Vander Plaat’s reaction was as much relief as jubilation.
Vander Plaat’s quest to reach 100 goals encountered a couple of postponements, but it finally happened Monday for the senior from Eastern Christian.
Vander Plaat tallied her 100th and 101st in the first half of a 3-0 victory over Hawthorne Christian in an independent girls soccer match that was rescheduled due to rain.
“It was kind of a relief,” said Vander Plaat, “especially since [two] games were [postponed] last week, and there was the hype for it, and it finally happened, and I was happy.”
Vander Plaat scored her 100th goal midway through the first half on a left-footed shot from 18 yards.
She hugged teammates, including senior midfielder Brooke Van Lenten — who was more excited than Vander Plaat.
“Any teammate getting 100 goals is celebratory,” Van Lenten said, “but Erin is particularly special to me, because she’s one of my best friends and I’m proud of her always
“And helping her reach the 100 mark is a good goal.
