Head coach Tommy Schultz and his Waldwick High School girls soccer team were able to recover from a frustrating first-round loss in the Bergen County tournament, mainly because they knew their time of year was approaching.

“We played ’em tough,” Schultz said emphatically of the 4-0 ouster by larger Pascack Valley earlier this month. “Now, the state [sectional] is the next big thing for us.”

The state tournament has been Waldwick’s bailiwick in recent years. The Warriors won North 1, Group 1 championships in 2008 and 2012, and they reached the sectional semifinals last season. And they definitely have the talent to challenge again.

Schultz’s roster is heavily laden with seniors, so the Warriors have reached a point of urgency in their varsity careers. Once the season ends, a bright future will remain thanks a talented group of juniors and a highly-promising freshman.

Following are capsules on each player in the words of coach Schultz as the team record stood at 11-2, including a momentous Oct. 8 win over Park Ridge, the two-time defending NJIC Patriot Division champion.
