SOUTH PLAINFIELD – Lyndsey Smith’s golden hat trick propelled Eastern Christian to its first Non-Public B track and field state championship title Saturday.

Smith has dominated her group and county this year and continued that run at the season’s penultimate meet at Frank R. Jost Field.

“It’s a really good feeling today, a lot of hard work paying off,” said the junior. “We’ve developed so well and we’ve been working hard for seven months. We’ve all gotten better and better, and it really showed today.”

Smith won the 100 (12.49), 200 (25.86) and the 400 (57.33). She also placed second in the long jump with a 16-2 1/2.

Coach Joel Apol couldn’t be happier with his team’s development: “We spent a lot of the season missing some athletes,” said Apol.
