JIM ALCORN/SPECIAL TO THE RECORD: Hawthorne’s Madison Perry averaged a 194 last season as an All-North Jersey performer.
Madison Perry has held a number of titles over the past few months. It’s a trend she hopes will continue when the 2016-17 varsity bowling season arrives.
In June, the Hawthorne standout was known as Mayor Perry for a day when her high school took part in a “Youth in Government” night at a borough council meeting. The honor wound up as a bit of a surprise, too.
“There were actually two [Youth in] Government programs that went through Hawthorne, and I signed up for the Board of Education one,” Perry said. “They ended up selecting me as mayor for the council meeting [program], but I had a great time.”
Among her mayoral duties were presenting a proclamation to her pre-calculus teacher, Cheryl Smith Pasquale, who was named an Outstanding Educator in Mathematics in North Jersey.
A few weeks later, Perry was on a trip to the Southeast, where she was referred to as Aunt Maddie for the first time.
“I went down to Nashville, Tennessee, to visit Vanderbilt, and shortly after, I went down to Georgia to see my older brother,” she said, noting that half-brother Kyle Jacobsen is a former Hawthorne bowler (Class of 2008). “He now has a daughter, so I’ve got to visit my niece.”
Perry’s other major venture this summer was to the Junior Gold Championships in Indianapolis in late July. She placed in the top 35 percent of the under-20 division, which included a number of college standouts.
