NEWARK — Immaculate Conception’s Gabby Slade wasted no time getting the Blue Wolves going in Wednesday’s North Non-Public B final against Eastern Christian.

The junior center fielder and first team All-Bergen selection stepped to the plate in the bottom of the first and deposited a no-doubt home run over the center field fence to give IC a quick one-run lead.

Slade’s first leadoff home run ignited top-seeded Immaculate Conception’s 12-0, five-inning win over Eastern Christian at Ivy Hill Park, as the defending Non-Public B champion Blue Wolves punched their ticket to Toms River for the second straight year.

As sophomore Sarah Piening put the finishing touches on a five-inning, three-hit shutout (eight strikeouts), the celebration was somewhat subdued.

For this Immaculate Conception squad, the sectional title is nice, but the Blue Wolves have their sights set on getting one more and defending their state crown.
