WANAQUE – Sam Galletta was struggling to find her stroke at the plate. She picked the perfect day to make the proper adjustments.
The senior third baseman unloaded a two-run triple with her team trailing by a run in the fifth inning to spark Pompton Lakes past Lakeland, 5-3, in a Passaic County tournament quarterfinal softball game Saturday at Addice Park. The Cardinals will visit top-seeded DePaul in the semifinals Friday at 4 p.m.
“I was battling a pretty bad slump for the last week or so,” Galletta said. “Early in the season I was hitting the ball well but then I went into that tailspin. I was getting into bad habits, like dipping my shoulder, and it created a hitch in my swing. Today everything was level and my bat speed and power frequency was back to normal.”
