Immaculate Conception sophomore Sarah Piening fired a complete-game, one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts, as the Blue Wolves improved to 11-1 with their 5-0 win over Mahwah on Saturday at the Coaches vs. Cancer softball tournament in Park Ridge.
Immaculate Conception struck for one run in the top of the first after Gabby Slade led off with a double and scored one batter later on an RBI single from Lea Georgatos. The Blue Wolves added three more in the second, getting an RBI singles from Gabby Fredette and Slade.
Piening took a no-hitter into the fifth, but surrendered a one-out single to Mahwah’s Dominique Maio.
