LYNDHURST – Strong team defense and reliable pitching. Those are the ingredients that can make for a successful outcome, especially when state tournament time comes around.
Lyndhurst was more than up to the task with its glove work and on the mound as the Golden Bears edged Fort Lee, 2-1, in a North 2, Group 2 quarterfinal softball game Tuesday at Recreational Field.
Lyndhurst will play the winner of today’s Hanover Park-Bernards game in a semifinal game that must be played by May 27.
Junior right-hander Jenny Tellefsen worked out of some early trouble to fire a complete-game one-hitter, striking out four and walking three.
The fielding behind her was solid, led by senior Grace Tomko, who made several nifty plays at shortstop to keep Fort Lee from igniting any big rallies.
