HASBROUCK HEIGHTS — With all the success and championships Kaitlin Salisbury has enjoyed in her memorable high school track career, an outdoor Passaic County record has eluded her grasp.
And even though Salisbury had huge personal bests and national-quality performances in the long and triple jump at Friday night’s Aviator Invitational Relays, the individual county records of 19 feet, 11 1/2 inches in the long jump and 40-7 in the triple jump still are intact — barely.
Of course, Salisbury’s two huge jumps, second all-time in both events heavily contributed to the wins. Sloan had a personal best in the long jump at 15-3 3/4 and a near personal record in the triple jump at 32-9. But it was Russo who put the Bears over the top with bests of more than a foot in the long jump (14-10 3/4) and two feet in the triple jump (32-5).
“Kaitlin just inspires us so much,” said Russo. “To think that I’m a county record-holder is so amazing.”
Lyndhurst won its second straight boys team title, 96-89, over host Hasbrouck Heights, the first time it has won the Lyndhurst and Aviator relays back to back. Hasbrouck Heights won the girls meet, 120-63 1/2, over Lyndhurst.
