LEONIA – New Milford’s John Burger sent a pair of state-ranked wrestlers packing Saturday to win his first District 7 wrestling title at 113 and earn the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler award.
Burger, the third seed at 113 pounds, downed second-seeded Evan Quinn of Bergen Catholic, 13-6, in the semifinals. He followed that up with a stunning 5-2 victory over top-seeded defending champion and Bergen Holiday Tournament runner-up Ian Tolotti of Dumont in the final.
Second-seeded Christian Correa joined his New Milford teammate at the top of the podium, upsetting top-seeded David Brennan of Bergen Catholic, 6-5, in the 160-pound final. Goran Krasic of Hackensack downed Benni Lopez of Bogota/Weehawken, 11-4, to win the 285-pound title.
