Hawthorne‘s Kaitlin Salisbury had one of the best junior seasons of any track athlete in the entire state and the fans took notice.

Salisbury, who won the long jump and triple jump at the Meet of Champions this spring, claimed the most votes in NJ.com’s first-ever North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Athlete of the Year fan poll.

On the final day of voting, Salisbury surpassed Cresskill football player Matt Ferrara and finished with more than 4,200 votes to earn the accolade.

It was well-deserved.

Outside of becoming just the third girl in state history to win both horizontal jumps at the Meet of Champions, Salisbury starred in the sprints.

Salisbury won her third MOC medal in the 100-meter dash, finishing fifth in 12.54. She ran a personal best 12.12 at the Group 1 Championships a week prior during a meet in which she earned four individual golds.

She will return for her senior season as one of the best all-around athletes in the state
