Lyndhurst HS

The Lyndhurst girls’ soccer team might have lost some quality players, but that hasn’t kept the team from starting on fire.

The Lady Golden Bears were 5-1 as of last week with the lone loss coming at the hands of rival New Milford in the NJIC Liberty Division battle to open the 2014 season.

Lyndhurst’s defense came to play on Friday when it shutout Dwight-Englewood, 2-0, at home in an NJIC Liberty Division contest. After a scoreless first half, Destiny Keith dropped in a pair of goals, and the Bears defense and goalkeeper Sara Barreiros made five saves to grab the division win. Amanda Fulcher and Jessica Failace added an assist each for Lyndhurst.

In a battle of South Bergenite teams, Lyndhurst had it easy with a young Queen of Peace squad, winning 8-0, on Sept. 17. Fulcher led the Lady Golden Bears offense with three goals and one assist in the NJIC Liberty Division contest. Giana DiTonto added four assists.

“So far I am pleased with the team’s overall play,” said Lyndhurst head girls soccer coach Kim Hykey.
