LYNDHURST — The young and inexperienced Lyndhurst/North Arlington co-op wrestling team got off on a goo
start as they finished second at the Kearny Holiday Tournament on Saturday, December 17th.
The Golden Bears/Vikings squad tallied 150 points, finishing 2nd behind Ocean Township.
Four Lyndhurst/North Arlington wrestlers reached the finals in their respective weight classes and two gabbed tournament titles, junior Matthew Daub and sophomore Derin Stitzer at 120 and 152 pounds respectively. Senior Conor Yunis and junior Jordan DeAbreu were second in the 138 and 170 pounds class respectively. Four Golden Bear wrestlers grabbed third place medals in freshman Jarrett Weber (126 pounds), sophomore Victory Jorge (160), sophomore Nick Fernandez (182), and junior Tyler Partyka (285).
The team finished the 2015-16 season with a 12-9 record and qualified for the state team tournament.
Head coach Joe Collins said that the team’s major objective will be to qualify for the state sectionals for the third consecutive year.
