CRESSKILL– The Cougars fought off a furious second-half charge by New Milford March 7 to gain entry in the North 1, Group 1 state section final against Cedar Grove with a 54-51 victory.
“Give them (New Milford) credit,” said Cresskill coach Mike Doto. “They played hard and they played a great game. I told my guys nothing is easy, everybody wants to win just as bad as we do. We’re home, we’ve been playing very well and we played a little bit scared tonight. We were able to hold on. We should have come in here with all the confidence in the world.”
“I can’t be any prouder of these guys,” said New Milford coach Mike Mayer. “It’s been a phenomenal year. We lost a semifinal game on the road by three points. I’m absolutely disappointed with the loss but it’s been a great year.”
