Here were the top performances in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference from Week 2:

OFFENSE

Josue Matias, Garfield, Sr., RB: Garfield ended Rutherford’s 26-game winning streak against division opponents in a 42-20 win, behind Matias’ big performance. Matias rushed 13 times for 262 yards and four touchdowns as Garfield moved into the driver’s seat for the Colonial Division title. Matias’ big year continued with his third straight 100-yard game. On the year, Matias has carried 56 times for 524 yards and 10 TDs.


 


DEFENSE

Dan Malkinski, Pompton Lakes, Jr., LB: Malkinski gets the nod for top defensive honors, but the junior starred on both sides of the ball in Pompton Lakes’ 20-8 win over Secaucus in Week 2. Malinski tallied four tackles, one sack and one interception — returned 30 yards — and scored two of Pompton Lakes’ three total touchdowns in the win, both on rushing attempts. He finished with 13 carries for 50 yards and 2 TDs in the Cardinals’ first win of the year.
