Girls Tennis: Group 1 Teams To Watch, 2019
The Lakers were crowned Group 1 champs last season and with five of seven starters back, they are in a good position to repeat.
Mountain Lakes has won two state championships – 2018 and 1999.
CONTENDERS: Kinnelon, Shore, Woodstown, Schalick, Glen Rock, Leonia, Highland Park, and Glen Ridge
Group 1 is always a tight race that comes down to the wire. Kinnelon, which won the Group in 2017, will miss Britany Lau, but rising sophomore Claire Zhang, a three-star prospect, is more than capable of filling her shoes. Shore made it to the Group 1 final before falling to Mountain Lakes, Glen Rock is always tough from up north, and Woodstown and Schalick are the two top teams from down south. Schalick has five returning starters including first singles Molly Jespersen.
