NORTH ARLINGTON – St. Mary and Queen of Peace boys basketball sealed an undefeated season and a share of a NJIC division title last week as the regular season came an end.
The Gaels ended an undefeated trip through the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Meadowlands Division after defeating rival Becton, 74-56, on Thursday in East Rutherford.
A couple of towns over, Queen of Peace took care of Secaucus, 83-51, to share the NJIC Liberty Division title with Dwight-Englewood, the first one for the Golden Griffins since the 2010-11 season.
“This was a huge accomplishment from the standpoint that we only had one previous player with varsity experience on our team,” said Queen of Peace head coach Chris Boyce who was the head coach when the Golden Griffins last won a league title. “Jeremy Joseph was the only player on our roster that had any varsity points. I am very proud of that accomplishment.”
Both St. Mary and Queen of Peace are rated highly as the Non-Public North B state section starts this week.
