North Arlington

NORTH ARLINGTON – The North Arlington school district is trying to dig up when the last time that the high school had a cross country program.

And the new head coach Bill Gahwyler of the new program said that his unofficial research has found out that it could have been either about a decade ago or almost 35 years ago. The high school though had a co-op program at times with Lyndhurst High School for cross country.

But whether it was a decade ago or back in the late ’70s, the district has gone full board with a cross country program in the district.

And the program received its first victory in its first dual meet on Sept. 10 as it defeated Paterson Charter, another first-time varsity program. The Vikings just missed upsetting an established program, Becton, in the meet at Garrett Mountain in Woodland Park on the same day.
