NORTH ARLINGTON – It was a big season for the North Arlington golf team in 2014. The Vikings made the state tournament for the first time in the program’s history and finished with an overall 13-5-1 record and a 10-4 mark in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Division 2.
North Arlington will probably never be in the ranks of Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco or Ramapo in the Bergen County elite, but they would like to give the likes of Glen Rock and Leonia, the two teams that were ahead of them in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Division 2, a run for their money.
As of last week, the weather has caused problems with duffers, and North Arlington has only had two matches, but both were victories, over Garfield and Eastern Christian.
Coming into the 2015 season, North Arlington head coach Daniel Farinola had to find some players to replace two of his best players in graduated seniors, Kenny Kuzmuk and Matt Karras. Kuzmuk was pivotal to the success of the ’14 squad while Karras was on the all NJIC Division 2 honorable mention list.
“It will be a challenge to replace Kenny Kuzmuk and Matt Karras from last year’s team but we were fortunate enough to have five consistent players last year including the two graduates,” said Farinola. Despite the losses Farinola believes that his squad will be able to hold its own and also get back to the postseason.
“I think this year’s team will be competitive once again,” said Farinola. “We are hoping to make the state tournament again after making it for the first time last year.”
