Nick Babin
Emerson/Park Ridge junior, 113 pounds
Babin has a clear winning pedigree with two Bergen County titles and three NJIC team championships with the Cavos. His stock got even higher in the postseason when he made the state finals.
Luke Mazzeo
Emerson/Park Ridge senior, 138 pounds
The son of a coach, Mazzeo heads to Clarion with a school record 155 wins. His credentials are extraordinary as a state finalist with three BCCA titles, but team success defines his legacy. He wrestled for the Cavos in 2016 when they became the first Bergen County school to win a public state championship.
Michael Filieri
Garfield senior, 220 pounds
Filieri (40-3) was the comeback story of the season when he won a Bergen County title and made the best postseason run in Garfield history. The state runner-up dedicated himself to a strict offseason routine and was rewarded a year after being knocked out in regions.
Dean Setticase
Saddle Brook senior, 285 pounds
Setticase was the Falcons’ top medalist in 38 years when he took third in the state. The Saddle Brook heavyweight earned 46 wins this season and celebrated the last one by jumping on coach Wayne Rogers.
Basketball:
Jaida Patrick
Saddle River Day senior guard/forward
Patrick averaged a double-double with 14.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. She chipped in 5.8 steals, 3.5 assists and 2.7 blocks per contest for the two-time Non-Public B state champs and is headed to Duke after scoring 1,107 career points.
Michelle Sidor
Saddle River Day senior guard
Sidor scored double digits in all 121 career games to total 3,268 points, No. 2 in state history. The Upper Saddle River resident averaged 26.6 points and had a North Jersey-best 88 threes for the Tournament of Champions finalists and will play at Michigan.
Amanda Ulrich
Secaucus senior guard
Ulrich led her team to a fourth-straight sectional final as well as the NJIC final. She averaged 21.9 points in moving up to fifth on the Hudson County girls scoring list and will take a career total of 2,224 points to St. Leo’s University (Fla.).
Jordan McKoy
Dwight-Englewood senior swingman
The 6-5 McKoy cracked Bergen County’s top-20 career scoring list with 1,803 points. He was among North Jersey’s most versatile and could play point guard or post up in the paint. He averaged 22.3 points and 6.7 rebounds this season while leading the Bulldogs (19-8) to a repeat title in the NJIC Liberty Division. He will continue at Merrimack.
Swimming:
Junseo Kim
Leonia/Palisades Park sophomore, 200 freestyle
The No. 1 ranked sophomore in New Jersey, Kim changed the balance of power this season by deciding to swim for her high school. She swept her individual races at the Bergen County meet and earned a state medal in the 200 freestyle.
Elle Morse
Leonia/Palisades Park senior, 50 freestyle
The Lions were one of the fastest teams in NJIC history, which is a testament to Morse. She earned a trio of titles at the Bergen County meet and helped the co-op set a league record by placing second overall.
Leonia/Palisades Park – 200 freestyle relay
In a record-breaking performance, the Lions became only the third team in 21 years to defeat IHA in a Bergen County championship relay. Junseo Kim and Rachel Kim sprinted out to a sizable lead, then Katie Rock and Elle Morse closed out the race.
Track & Field:
Jenna Rogers
Rutherford junior, high jump
What was a self-admitted difficult season for Rogers would have been a sensational season for others. She won eight titles, including the Group 2 and sectional titles,4th in MOC, and fifth at Eastern States.
Bowling:
Trevor Deliantis
Becton, senior
A four-year starter for the Wildcats, he carried the No. 2 average in the NJIC at 226.9, a 32-pin improvement from last winter. Deliantis fired four 700 series with a high of 749, had a 279 high game and finished fourth in the Crusader Classic.
Joe Mahoney
Park Ridge, sophomore
The NJSIAA individual runner-up had the top overall average in North Jersey (225.7), which included a 233.7 in nine games at the state finals. Mahoney rolled 700 series in six straight NJIC Patriot matches and placed fourth in the North 1A sectional.
Eric McKenna
North Arlington, senior
The first North Jersey bowler ever to record two 800 series in a single season compiled the area’s No. 1 league average (228.8). He shot a 300 during opening week, captured the Bergen County individual title and placed second in the North 1B sectional by one pin.
Gabrielle Capalad
Leonia, senior
Capalad placed in the top 10 at every North Jersey tournament and wound up 32nd in the state individual finals. She anchored the Lions to a second straight NJIC Patriot title and carried the leading girls average in the conference at 191.8.
Hockey:
Mack Alvino
Glen Rock, sophomore goaltender
Taking over four games into the season, he made an immediate impact, allowing only 13 goals in his first 10 games. He closed the season with a 1.77 goals against average and a 94.0 save percentage.
