North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Players of the Week
Delilah Tabaka, Wallington, Sr.
Tabaka, who made history earlier this year when she became the 25th pitcher in New Jersey history to strike out 1,000 batters, furthered her place in history this past week. Thanks to a 13 strikeout outing in Wallington’s 9-5 win over Rutherford, Tabaka became Bergen County’s all-time strikeouts leader with 1,067 after that game. On the week she struck out 44 in 24 innings, allowing just three earned runs and two walks in that stretch as she now has 252 K’s this season and 1,088 for her career.
Laila Henson, St. Mary (Ruth.), Jr.
The Gaels are through to the finals of the Bergen County Invitational and Henson’s offensive performances last week helped them get there. She went 7-for-16 with 10 runs scored, eight RBI and four stolen bases. In the Gaels’ 3-2 win over Bergenfield in the Bergen County Invitational semis, she went 1-for-3 with an RBI. She also hit her first homer of the season in an 11-0 win over North Arlington wehre she drove in three runs.
