North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Bowlers of the Week (2-9-24)

Rachel Kang, Leonia

Kang was the No. 31 qualifier out of 32 entrants into the Bergen County Individual Tournament which took place on Thursday at Montvale Lanes. Despite the odds stacked against her, Kang made it all the way into the stepladder final. Kang rolled a 535 series in qualifying to earn the No. 4 seed. She upset Becton’s Leah Rodriguez in the quarterfinals, 242-185, and Pascack Hills’ Hadyn Hopper in the semifinals, 200-181. Kang also rolled a 448 series in a Leonia victory over Mary Help of Christians this past Monday.

Max Heun, St. Mary (Rutherford)

Heun earned the No. 3 seed at the Bergen County Individual Tournament by rolling a 662 in qualifying (200-227-235). He got better as the day went along. Heun then defeated Matthew Palmiotto in the stepladder quarterfinals, 204-187. In a St. Mary win over Harrison, Heun also recorded a 671 series with a high game 245. Heun won the reader voting poll as N.J.’s top bowler this week as well.
