NORTH JERSEY INTERSCHOLASTIC CONFERENCE SEASON IN REVIEW, 2024
Player of the Year:
Ian Batra, Weehawken, Jr.
Batra played his first season of high school tennis a year ago and flew under the radar playing on a Group 1 team that went just 2-8.
Batra went 10-0 on the season and came back this year and did much of the same and more. Batra helped Weehawken to an 8-6 campaign, and he again went unblemished in team dual matches at 14-0.
After not competing at the state singles tournament in 2023, he entered this season and earned a high 5-8 seed and advanced into the quarterfinals. Batra defeated Vincenzo Caruso in comeback fashion in the fourth round, and he also topped Rohan Vyas in the third round and Arul Gupta in the second.
Team of the Year:
Glen Rock
Glen Rock won its fourth-straight North 1, Group 1 sectional title as it edged Park Ridge, 3-2.
Glen Rock would go on and fall to Edison Magnet, 3.5-1.5 in the Group 1 semifinals, but the Panthers finished the season at 19-3 with several key wins along the way over Kinnelon, Fair Lawn, Saddle River Day, Mahwah, Pompton Lakes and Fort Lee.
Glen Rock is set to bring back six starters from this year’s squad including singles Andrew Eisenberg, Jacob Grinberg and Ben Horne, and doubles Leo Yoshimoto, Felix Dyadyuk and Aarnav Dharia.
