2026 All-North Jersey track and field teams
Paul Schwartz
FIRST TEAM BOYS
Evan Yuzon, Glen Rock junior (shot put)
It took some last-throw dramatics for Yuzon to duplicate his winter heroics and earn his second State Meet of Champions title, but the junior never lost to a New Jersey thrower and won 10 of 11 shot put titles he contested, with the only loss a sixth-place finish at Penn Relays against some of the best in the world. He had five meets where he performed above 60 feet, with a best of 64-2 at the NJIC Colonial meet, fourth best in Bergen County history. He also won four discus titles and advanced to the SMOC.
Patrick Szabo, Wallington senior (discus)
The Wallington star became the first state group champion for his school since 2009, and the first to win both the shot put and discus at groups. He won six major discus titles and four shot put crowns, including the BMOC discus title and the North 2, Group 1 sectionals double. He placed fifth at SMOC and threw a personal best of 55-½ in the shot at the East Coast Championships.
Brady Shine, Hasbrouck Heights senior (javelin)
Shine consistently performed on the way to earning his third medal in a row at the State Meet of Champions, just the second North Jersey boy to accomplish that feat. This time he struck gold, winning by nearly five feet with his eighth meet out of 11 over 190 feet, including a personal best of 203-6. He won 10 of his 11 meets, just missing the finals at Penn Relays in ninth place. He’ll throw at Rowan.
SECOND TEAM BOYS
200: Ivan Bempah, New Milford junior
1,600: Misha Theberge, Saddle River Day junior
110 HH: Yannick Fall, Becton senior
High jump: Dimitry Bernard, Becton junior
FIRST TEAM GIRLS
Iza Samu, Glen Rock senior (long jump)
A hamstring injury kept the Naval Academy-bound Samu from competing in her best event, the 100 meter hurdles, all season, but the versatile star still managed to win honors in her second best event and make the State Group 2 championship in both the high jump and 4-x-100 relay. The 2024 Group 2 champion, won only one meet all year, the Bergen Meet of Champions, but managed a third place in the North 1 Group 2 sectionals, was fifth at groups and was 11th at SMOC, the top North Jersey performer.
SECOND TEAM
400 hurdles: Gina Minichiello, Hasbrouck Heights junior
Javelin: Elanna Henry, Garfield senior
High jump: Grace Dalgetty, Dwight-Englewood senior
