North 1, Group 1: New Milford

The drought is finally over for the Knights. New Milford won its first sectional title since 1985, outscoring Hasbrouck Heights 106-80. Hasbrouck Heights had previously won the last three sectional titles in N1G1.
Ivan Bempah’s versatility was invaluable to New Milford. One of the top 200 meter runners in the state, Bempah won the N1G1 sectional title in that event with a time of 22.08. He clocked a PR of 50.22 in the 400, and also took third in the 100 dash (11.03).
Luke Johnson (hurdles) and Jeremy Friedberg (shot put and discus) also claimed sectional titles for New Milford.
North 1, Group 1: Hasbrouck Heights
Team MVP: Gina Minichiello
The junior hurdling, jumping and sprinting standout piloted the Aviators with 38 points. She won the 200 dash, 400 hurdles and long jump to go with a second-place race in the 100 dash to help Hasbrouck Heights win its sixth-consecutive sectional title and 10th since 2013.
